While everyone poops, not enough is known about how to turn this waste into energy we can harness. Now a team of Virginia Tech researchers have discovered how electrochemically-active bacteria create energy. Their findings, published in Scientific Reports, speak to a growing sustainability movement to capture energy from existing waste to potentially make treatment facilities more energy-efficient.
