Your CALS alumni connection

A letter to the CALS alumni community

Hello, Hokies!

It’s been an exciting year for CALS alumni! Last year, we welcomed Mario Ferruzzi as our new dean, and many of you had the chance to meet him in person at events in Blacksburg, Meadowview, Richmond, and Charlotte as part of our Meet the Dean event series.

As Dean Ferruzzi sets priorities for the college, we’ve strengthened the Dean’s Advisory Council with expanded representation from the CALS Alumni Organization board and updated its structure to better support the college’s teaching, research, and Extension missions.

Meanwhile, the CALS Alumni Organization is finalizing a new mission statement that aligns with the dean’s vision and defines how we will serve the college and alumni:

Cultivating and connecting CALS Hokies for the future of agriculture and life sciences.

  1. Promote CALS and its teaching, discovery, and Extension missions to alumni, industry, and the public.
  2. Partner with the CALS dean, associate deans, Advancement, and campus stakeholders to support financial and programmatic initiatives.
  3. Develop and implement programming to recruit new alumni, foster lifelong engagement, encourage volunteerism, and strengthen relationships across CALS and the industries we serve.

If you’d like to get more involved — whether by connecting with fellow alumni, attending events, or joining the CALS Alumni Organization — visit cals.vt.edu/alumni.

We look forward to another year of building Hokie Nation together!

Cheers,
Your Alumni and Constituent Relations Team
