Agricultural Research and Extension Centers , redirect
Agricultural Research and Extension Centers (ARECs) have research projects and activities that encompass the work of nearly 340 scientists in five colleges at Virginia Tech: Agriculture and Life Sciences; Natural Resources and Environment; Liberal Arts and Human Sciences; College of Science; and Veterinary Medicine. The Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station's (VAES) research network includes 11 research centers throughout the state. These stations, known as ARECs, emphasize the close working relationships between the VAES and Virginia Cooperative Extension.

The 3,200-acre College Farm operation includes several tracts of land near the Virginia Tech campus, plus Kentland Farm located in northwestern Montgomery County. The farm operation provides resources and support to research, teaching, and Extension programs that focus on many of Virginia’s major agricultural crop and livestock species. The operation also supports programs related to environmental concerns, sustainable agriculture, natural resources, alternative crops, and improved agricultural efficiencies.

Fralin LIfe Science Institute , redirect
The Fralin Life Science Institute is an investment institute committed to supporting research, education, and outreach in Virginia Tech’s life sciences community. Located on Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus, this 44,324-square-foot building houses administrative staff and nine faculty researchers from the departments of Entomology, Fish and Wildlife Conservation, Food Science, and Biochemistry. Resources in the building include a facility for confocal microscopy, a fermentation and protein purification laboratory, an insectary, and a containment laboratory.

Human and Agricultural Biosciences Building 1
Human and Agricultural Biosciences Building 1 (HABB1) is the first of four buildings in the new biosciences precinct, located on the western edge of Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus. The 92,300-square-foot building provides research and office space for Biological Systems Engineering and Food Science and Technology. One main goal of the facility is to incorporate laboratory and support facilities for a wide range of microbiological and biochemical research.

Homefield Farm is a partnership between Virginia Tech Dining Services and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The 6-acre farm, which grows fruits, vegetables, and herbs specifically for Dining Services, serves as a site of experiential student learning, interdisciplinary research, and community outreach.

The Integrated Life Sciences Building, located in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, houses 22 researchers from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Natural Resources, College of Science, and College of Veterinary Medicine. Research interests include virology, cancer, obesity, and food science.

Latham Hall , redirect
Latham Hall, the Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Laboratory, is located on Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus and replaces older campus facilities not suited for state-of-the-art research. Approximately 75 percent of the five-floor, 85,000-square-foot facility provides laboratory space for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, including crop and soil environmental sciences; entomology; plant pathology, physiology and weed science; and horticulture. The College of Natural Resources and Environment utilizes approximately 25 percent of the facility for its departments of Forestry and Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences.
