General ItemFall 2022 CALS Global Scholar, Anubhab Gupta, to Conduct Research for World Food Programme Cambodia
Dr. Anubhab Gupta, assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, has been named the Fall 2022 CALS Global Scholar. This semester, the Global Scholar award will be used to build connections with the Nobel Peace Prize recipient, the World Food Programme, to support the research needs of the Cambodia Country Office. As the CALS Global Scholar, Gupta will work with WFP Cambodia to understand the economic impact of rice fortification and help construct a framework to analyze the economic costs and benefits of rice fortification. PhD candidate Yoonjung Lee will work with Dr. Gupta on this research project.

Virginia Tech researchers are studying the impact of bacteria from human food scraps that travel through ecosystems in both Botswana and the United States. These bacteria are often associated with fruits, vegetables, and raw or undercooked meats and can spread through the ecosystem from scraps being fed to companion animals or livestock.

Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) has recently hosted two Fulbright faculty. Fulbright Fellow, Mohammad Golam Farouque, was a guest of Virginia Tech’s College of Agriculture (CALS), VCE, CALS Global, and the Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education (ALCE) Department on July 27. VCE is also partnering with the Virginia Tech Department of Entomology, Department of Population Health Sciences, and Hollins University to host Fulbright Scholar in Residence Dr. Isabell Kingori.
