Study Abroad Proposals

The Global Education Approval Committee (GEAC) reviews all faculty-led study abroad proposals for Virginia Tech. CALS must review and approve proposals prior to submission to GEAC. If you have questions about developing a faculty-led study abroad course, please contact Ben Grove who serves as liaison to the Global Education Office for CALS.

As you prepare your proposal, please note the following:

  • Notify Ben Grove via email if you are planning to submit a course for approval.
  • Applications for CALS review are due to Nicole Martin (martinn@vt.edu) by 5:00 p.m. on February 15 for Winter/Spring or September 15 for Summer/Fall. Note this is 30 days prior to the GEAC deadlines of March 15 for Winter/Spring and October 15 for Summer/Fall.
  • Previously approved courses must be submitted for renewal each year.
  • A CALS committee will review the applications and provide feedback prior to final submission to GEAC for university review.
  • CALS Academic Programs is the correct resource for curricular questions you may have. If you are submitting this application cycle and have not done so already, please contact Pete Ziegler (pziegler@vt.edu) for input early in the process.
  • The Global Education Office (GEO) has a number of resources available on the faculty-led programs page under the Proposing a Program and Resources sections.

Thank you for your interest in offering meaningful study abroad courses for our students. Please contact Ben Grove with any questions.
