Sonya Rowe
Sonya brings more than a decade of experience in research administration at Virginia Tech, with a strong record of excellence in post-award financial management, compliance, and faculty support. Most recently, she served as Business Manager for the Molecular Sciences Software Institute (MolSSI), where she led post-award financial operations for a $35 million NSF-funded institute. In this role, she managed the full lifecycle of award administration, oversaw subawards and closeouts, ensured compliance with federal and university regulations, and provided hands-on guidance to faculty on post-award best practices.
Prior to MolSSI, Sonya spent several years as Senior Program Manager at the Hume Center for National Security and Technology, supporting complex federally funded research programs and working extensively with agencies such as AFRL, NRL, DARPA, and other DoD sponsors. Her deep expertise spans pre- and post-award administration, financial oversight, sponsor reporting, and regulatory compliance.
Sonya holds both the Certified Research Administrator (CRA) and Project Management Professional (PMP) credentials and is well known across campus for her collaborative approach and commitment to supporting Virginia Tech’s research mission.
