Overview of approaches to animal behavior consulting. Business practices, safety considerations, coping with challenges, and ethics. Treatment development, implementation, and documentation.

Learning Objectives

Having successfully completed this course, the student will be able to:

  • Assess the different opportunities for behavior consulting available to animal behavior professionals;
  • Develop a process for safely assessing behavior, developing/planning for interventions, and measuring outcomes consistent with the dimensions and ethics of applied behavior analysis;
  • Implement different methods for working with clients, including difficult clients;
  • Implement procedural and policy components necessary for effective consulting;
  • Interact effectively with and/or complementing other types of behavior professionals;
  • Discuss the challenges to personal wellbeing that animal behavior consultants frequently experience;
  • Develop coping strategies with challenges of the animal behavior consulting field.
