Description
This course is intended to provide an understanding of the core skills required to be a successful leader in nonprofit organizations. Topics addressed include the nonprofit sector, strategic planning, program development, governance, executive leadership, personnel, fundraising, financial administration, marketing & communications, and volunteer management. Prerequisites: none.
Learning Objectives
Having successfully completed this course, students will be able to:
- Discuss the unique role of nonprofits in civil society.
- Organize the roles and responsibilities of nonprofit governing boards.
- Outline the best practices used in fundraising.
- Appraise the importance of financial management in nonprofit organizations.
- Construct human resources practices in nonprofit organizations, including recruitment of quality volunteer talent.
- Explain marketing and communication techniques used by nonprofit organizations to get their message across to various stakeholders.
- Answer the question: what skills and abilities are needed to be a successful nonprofit leader?
