Education Concentration

Virginia Tech’s Online Master of Science in Agricultural and Life Sciences (OMALS) offers a 15-credit Education concentration designed to strengthen skills in teaching and learning, leadership, Extension, and communication within agricultural and life sciences.

Coursework focuses on areas such as youth and adult program management, curriculum design, STEM integration in agricultural education, and international service and partnerships. The concentration prepares students to apply research-based educational strategies while developing as agricultural leaders, educators, and communicators.

Education Skills and Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the OMALS degree with an Education concentration, students will be able to:

  • Examine the scholarly literature and illustrate connections to the practice of teaching and learning
  • Design, implement and evaluate educational curriculum, programming and outreach in agricultural and life sciences
  • Integrate research based agricultural, leadership, and community educational models into practice
  • Perform and evaluate research applications in agricultural, leadership, and community education
  • Evaluate the use of technology in agricultural, leadership, and community education curriculum
