Laura Rasnick serves as the Administrative Research Programs Assistant coordinating non-competitive, U.S. Department of Agriculture Capacity Projects (229 Formula Funds) on behalf of the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station (VAES), within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS).  As the primary contact, she guides nearly 200 faculty across 21 units and 3 colleges through the Hatch, Hatch/Multistate, McIntire Stennis, and Animal Health & Disease programs.  Her responsibilities include organizing proposals, notice of awards, and annual reports to the U.S.D.A.  Additionally,  she assists Kang Xia, Associate Director of VAES, with annual New Faculty Cohort meetings (Research & Hatch), the annual Plant Germplasm Release Committee applications and meeting, CALS Excellence in Research Awards (basic & applied), and multistate travel grants.  She also serves as a liaison between VAES and other offices both on and off campus. 

Before joining VAES in September 2018, Laura served five years as a Senior Pre-Award Associate in the central Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) where she supported a diverse portfolio of university departments and developed the New Principal Investigator Onboarding Program.  She was a Pre-Award Administrator for four years preceding promotion to Senior Associate and worked as a Contract Administrator for a local small business before joining Virginia Tech in the fall of 2009.  Laura is a Certified Research Administrator (CRA), a member of the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA), Society of Research Administrators (SRA), and received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Virginia.
