Description
Appropriate and professional use of effective communication skills to convey diverse concepts to a wide range of audiences in food, health, and environmental contexts. Application of discourse practices for effective problem solving; cohesive writing structures in academic and non-academic settings; practical oral and visual presentation methods; and professional writing and documentation to communicate information clearly. Emphasis on applying these skills within the student’s chosen concentration to address specific agricultural challenges.
Learning Objectives
Students should acquire facts, skills, and problem-solving abilities to:
- Practice effective writing and editing strategies to communicate concepts to food, health, and environmental audiences
- Create effective oral communication in food, health, and environmental contexts to convey appropriate messages to specific stakeholder groups or audiences
- Develop effective visual presentations, including design, layout, visual aids, and data visualization, tailored to food, health, and environmental contexts
- Produce professional documents addressing agricultural challenges with a clear understanding of stakeholder needs and expectations
- Communicate evidence-based positions tailored to specific audiences and disciplinary contexts while engaging professionally in discourse
- Identify and curate discourse tools applicable to the student’s professional environment
