“I’ve had a love for science and nature for my entire life and experiencing the seasons with my family was very influential in fueling that passion.”

After graduating with a B.S. from Appalachian State University, Justus had an internship with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Oregon helping conservation research for several endangered freshwater species. Justus then returned to the east coast to occupy a research position at Virginia Tech alongside Dr. Bill Hopkins, the director of the Global Change Center. Justus’ research interest is the betterment of freshwater systems. Rather than studying the specific species themselves, he feels that he will make stronger and broader impacts for conservation by studying and understanding the ecosystems crucial for their survival.

Justus has a B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology from Appalachian State University and is currently working towards an M.S. in Biological Systems Engineering at Virginia Tech.
