Kayla Surley
Kayla is a native of Chesterfield, Virginia, and her research interests lie in exploring how educational gardens can benefit youth in communities classified as food deserts. She joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated during her undergraduate studies and became involved in Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), where she held leadership roles such as Secretary and Vice President. Upon completing her graduate studies, Kayla aspires to secure a position at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) or Cooperative Extension, where she can focus on educational outreach initiatives. Her passion for agriculture and community development drives her ambition to make a positive impact in underserved areas.
Kayla has earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business and Economics at Virginia State University and is currently working towards a master’s degree in Agriculture and Life Science Department of Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education at Virginia Tech.
